Omeka News: Support for LCSH as Controlled Vocabulary

omekaHere’s some updates from the Omeka front. Omeka has just released a new plug-in, “Library of Congress Suggest,” that adds an interesting bit of functionality to your metadata. Specifically, it:”…adds an auto-complete feature to almost any metadata field in your Omeka site by pulling results from Library of Congress’s list of authorities and controlled vocabularies. The Library of Congress maintains an Authorities and Vocabularies service that controls metadata terms used in creating and maintaining records of their holdings. Choices include, LC Subject Headings, MARC Geographic Ares, and Thesaurus of Graphic Materials.”

Ready to play with plug-ins and/or synch your subjects and other fields with some controlled vocabularies on the fly? Check out this plug-in (and report back)!

  1. Wow that’s great! We’ve been slogging through MARC records in 551 and there (Connexion) too I have wondered why there can’t be an easy auto-complete type LCSH function.
