One of the most important aspects about a graduate-level education in LIS is that it prepares you for leadership roles – not only in the institutions in which you will work, but often on a national level, where your input and participation can effect real change in policy and in initiatives. One such example of participation is reflected in the following call from the Digital Library Federation for participation on the planning committee for its 2013 conference, as quoted below:
The Digital Library Federation would like to invite members of our community, and those involved in the greater digital library community, to participate in the planning of the 2013 DLF Forum. Being part of the Program Planning Committee (PPC) will involve participation in bi-weekly planning phone calls beginning seven months before the Forum, as well as attendance at the Forum in Austin, TX November 3-6.
If you are interesting in playing a vital role in shaping the 2013 DLF Forum, please send Jena Winberry (jwinberry [at] clir [dot] org) a letter of interest by February 22, 2013. We will announce the Program Planning Committee membership by the beginning of March.
The call closes in just a couple days, but if you are interested, you may wish to throw your hat in the ring, or keep this in mind for the future!
